NOTES: The University of Minnesota finishes the year atop the poll after capturing the NCAA Division I national championship on Sunday (March 18). The win marked the Gophers third national championship and first since 2005 ... Six teams remained on the poll throughout the entire season ... The University of Wisconsin's Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) was named the recipient of the 2012 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented by Easton Foundations. In its 15th year, the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is given out annually by the USA Hockey Foundation to the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey. Decker, a junior forward, received the award during a sold-out award ceremony and brunch held at the Greysolon Ballroom in Duluth, Minn., on March 17. Visit PattyKaz.com for more information ... The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has four ranked teams in the final poll of the season, while the Hockey East Association has three ranked teams and ECAC Hockey has two ranked teams. Mercyhurst is the only College Hockey America team ranked ... A total of 12 teams received votes.
ABOUT THE POLL: The 15th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the four NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
